Just five years away from our 150th year anniversary. Does anyone remember our 100th year celebration? I was just 11 at the time, but I fondly remember watching just how proud we were to have our Canada. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18-oRTLIe3I |

We drove up from Virginia. We had an attachment to Canada, because we had travelled there almost every year, driving from Alaska to Minnesota and back again. Quebec was new to us, though. I remember the just-built apartments catering to visitors that had sprung up, the French spoken on the streets, the beauty of old Montreal's architecture, the amazing (but crowded) metro, the impressive hovercraft, the space-age look of everything at the fair, the glass "ski-jump" of the USSR pavilion and the man selling "real Russian ice cream" to cool off the people in the hot sun waiting to get in, the geodesic dome of the US pavilion (and the mostly vacuous "pop art" style displays within), the monorail, Petula Clark's "Don't Sleep in the Subway" on the radio seemingly every ten minutes, and a miniskirt density never to be seen again on planet Earth. Happy memories, Kevin. -- http://nationalvanguard.org/ http://kevinalfredstrom.com/ |
