DhiaDuit writes thewatchers.adorraeli.com Very large fireball seen over London ...Did you see it? Yes (25 miles west of London). I woke up at about 3:15am, checked the time on bedside alarm clock, and toddled off to have a pee. In mid flow, the toilet window blind was suddenly lit up with a bright white flash, lasting for about a second. I immediately thought it was a car using full-beam headlights, coming along the road towards the house, and encountering one of the speed bumps. Normally, after the car had passed over the speed bump, there would still be signs on the blind of its headlights lighting things up outside (although not shining directly on the blind). However, everything now seemed to be dark, so I thought that maybe the car had stopped, and quickly switched off its lights. When I had finished my pee, I immediately looked out of the landing window at the top of the stairs (which faces straight down the road) - but there was no sign of any car. All was in complete darkness. Although the sky was fairly cloudless, I did briefly wonder if there had somehow been a distant flash of lightning, and I hadn't heard the sound - but I then toddled back to bed, and fell asleep again. In the morning, I was surprised to hear the news about the meteor, and realised that the time of its sighting (appx 3:16am) would have been when I saw the flash. -- Ian |
