Default ARRL FUD about BPL

Unfortunately, the technically unsophisticated do not recognize the
difference between coherent and non-coherent noise, and this makes it
easy for the ARRL to spread its FUD. But the fact is that, if BPL
signals are heard at all, they are coherent (have a predictable phase
and amplitude) and therefore can be completely removed at the
receiver.

OK, I'm technically unsophicated. Are BPL signals more coherent than the
noise from TV sync signals or switchmode power supplies?

I quick scanned the websites. The only mention of radio is the promise that
BPL will meet Part 15 requirements. One does get specific when it says:

"One of the questions the FCC asks is whether radiated signals from access
BPL systems on the electric power lines would interfere with signals on the
cable and telephone lines, and vice versa."

That's nice, but cable and phone lines are inherently far more interference
resistant than radio.

The BPL people have done plenty of demonstrations. Have they done some real
world tests with radio reception? If they have, shouldn't they share the
results?

Here's some search results from the UPLC website:

"No matches were found for 'rfi'"

"No matches were found for 'shortwave'"

Here's a few from the Wave Report website:

On this one "RFI" means "Request for Information":

http://www.wave-report.com/1999%20wa.../wave9051.html

This one refers to Radio Frequence Interference from ADSL lines:

http://www.wave-report.com/2003%20wa...s/wave0325.htm

Shortwave is mentioned on this one, but in connection with Bluetooth
technology:

http://www.wave-report.com/2000%20wa.../wave2037.html

If there's any relevent information about BPL interference for the SWL on
either website, it's tucked away.

So how about the BPL folk report a real world test? Maybe next time demo
time when Michael Powell plugs in his way cool internet ready Lava Lamp,
they could have a SW radio on. Or is that be too technologically
unsophicated?
