Default Kenwood TS830 Mod?

Anyone know of a mod to make the Kenwood 830 transceiver a general coverage
receiver?

I wouldn't bother. You could probably reprogram the diode matrix to go
other bands, but you would still be limited to the number of bands you
could use. Also, the rf sections would be peaked for a certain freq
range. The circuits are fairly hi-q. The 830 is too good a rig to hack
into IMHO. I'd buy a gen coverage receiver instead. Or get a 2nd ham rig
thats gen cov. MK

I doubt it.

It is an analog tuned system not synthesized like the modern radios

So as I recall --- it has RF and Oscillator tuned circuits for each ham
band.

Perhaps an external VFO of some sort but you will would still have the
problem of tuning the RF stages.

Easier to buy a modern SWL receiver.

Just IMHO
