I picked up this small shortwave receiver in Europe. It's similar to the US
version (SW100s) with a few minor differences. Was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this radio and how they like it. Thanks. |

Actually there was a time when both the E and S versions were sold, differing only in accessories (the S comes with an active antenna and stuff while the E has to make do with the AN-71 wire antenna). Post-1997 models feature various improvements, including better protection for the infamous ribbon cable, better sensitivity and improved synch detection. Great little radio, can easily be damaged, I set on mine by accident once,
and cracked hinge. Otherwise well packed radio for the size. "David" wrote in message ... I picked up this small shortwave receiver in Europe. Typical Japanese miniaturisation taken to the limit. Performance is good, though AM/MW could be just a wee bit more sensitive (am I picky or what?). Synchronous detection a bit lop-sided; USB sounds different from LSB, suspect misalignment, but heard that this is common. It works ok though. Batteries don't last a long time, at least on mine, consumption heavy. Would recommend AC adapter or rechargeables for long term use. I got the SW100E model, but often wonder how much better it would perform with the active antenna, instead of the wind up random wire which came included. Had to do the ribbon cable replacement job as it is a pre-97 model. It's a fiddly operation and ended up with slight damage on the case as a result of prying it open a bit aggressively, the brute that I am! And the cable orientation is important. Can't think why.... ;-) regards, Ian, Renfrew, Scotland. |

Thanks for the responses! The 100e version I have has the active antenna,
as well as a wire that can be attached to the active antenna and extended through a window or whatever. It's a nice radio, and a good conversation piece.... "Ian Smith" wrote in message ...
