I got my Satellit 800 back from R.L. Drake today with a brand new encoder.
But now, for some reason, I can't get the damn thing to run off the batteries. They are in there correctly (I know I killed a lot of brain cells in college, but still...) I had no problems with the batteries before I sent it off. Could Drake have screwed up something related to the battery power supply while fixing the encoder? Also, the "." key is sticking a little bit too, which I also don't remember happening before I sent it off. Does replacement of the encoder require some work with the keypad? Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Yes, they sent me back the same unit. Same serial # and a couple of
familiar scuff marks. I still can't understand what the hell is up with the batteries. +++++++++++++++++++ "Gray Shockley" wrote in message .com... Did you check the serial number to see if you got back your unit?

You probably have just overlooked something in the switching from AC
to DC. I'll bet you even have it working correctly by the time you read this! Good luck!On Fri, 24 Oct 2003 17:24:54 -0500, "Jenni_is_a_Whore" wrote: I got my Satellit 800 back from R.L. You probably have just overlooked something in the switching from AC
to DC. I dunno... With every unit I have, unplugging the the external source enables the batteries. It sounds like a bad power jack on the radio. Bill, K5BY |

To work on the radio the repair person had to remove the rear cover and disconnect the battery power connector (plug) for the wires that go from the battery compartment to the main PC board. They may have forgot to plug it back in to the PCB before the rear cover was put on. You'll have to remove the cover to check this out. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

JIAW/Anon,
Remove the back of the GS800M. Check the two wires from the batteries to the main circuit board. IIRC: There is a mechanical interupt/disconnect switch built into the External 9VDC Jack on the back of the GS800M; for the ACDC Power Adapter. There could be a problem with this built-in-switch. mttidnk ~ RHF .. .. = = = "Jenni_is_a_Whore" = = = wrote in message news:cHhmb.4807$d87.2704@okepread05... I got my Satellit 800 back from R.L. BINGO! That was it! I opened up the case and one of the battery power
wires wasn't connected to the header on the circuit board. I was a little worried about opening it up because I've never taken one of my radios apart before. But it turned out to be an easy repair. I'm a little suprised by this since I always heard that Drake's service department ws top notch. I'll drop them an e-mail today and let them know what happend with my unit at their repair facility. Thanks to all of you for your assistance. "RHF" wrote in message om... JIAW/Anon, Remove the back of the GS800M. Check the two wires from the batteries to the main circuit board.
