Default Radio Australia via Sackville (RCI)? Good idea -- or is RA too isolationist for this?

In any case Europe and the USA could be reached quite well for a few hours
each day...

Not going to happen. RA has, for years now, reduced its area of concentration
to the Pacific and Asia. This makes sense both financially and politically.
Fortunately, shortwave does not recognize these geographical limits and some
transmissions can be heard quite well in other parts of the world--as you all
already know.

RA is suffering some from the budget cuts the Howard government has heaped on
its parent, the ABC. They couldn't afford Sackville even if they wanted to go
that route and, unfortunately, they even are going to have to reduce their use
of WRN which they use to reach NA and Europe directly a couple of hours a day.
