It seems to record voice okay, 4.5 hours, the first limitation being
that that's sometimes more than the life of a pair of NiMH AA's and sometimes not. 16kbs bandwidth seems to go out to 3kHz. The AGC seems to be set to ``fast;'' and it's not very sensitive on AM, so local stations only unless you put it near a MW loop or some sweet spot in the house, like in mine atop the refrigerator near the power line entry. The reason it's not made sensitive is that it picks up internal computer noise at its threshhold level, so you have to swamp that by adding signal. It is self-contained (except for a MW loop if needed) and records on-to-off settings you put in, on frequencies you give, up to ten of them, on a specified day, or M-F, or every day. It seems to retain settings okay across battery changes. I'll use it for recording Imus as a backup in case the computer system fails. You do have to remember to clear the previous day's memory-load and change the battery every day, and put it back on top of the refrigerator. Not in the manual, you can reset it by putting it in voice mode and holding down the repeat button for 10-15 seconds; a badly needed feature on previous pogo products, for those of us who use them without a PC. Otherwise when the software hoses a pointer you're screwed. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |
