I have checked Ebay off and on the past couple years for shortwave radios
and I must say I never have yet seen what I consider a great deal on a used or new shortwave radio. Most are either being bid at the 'average' price one would expect for that radio or higher than some retail stores. Many times I can find the radio cheaper somewhere else.Anyone actually had a good deal off Ebay with shortwave radios? |

Sure, I got the R8B I use at the moment for $775.00, I got the R8 for around $325, and paid about $500 for my R7. Not to bad. Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B |

An additional comment: One cannot expect things to be given away! eBay is a fairly efficient marketplace, and being such, prices generally tend to reflect the 'true' value of the item. There are always aberrations, but generally, eBay has 'fair market' pricing. Steve Holland, MI Drake R7, R8 and R8B "I swear by, not at, Drake receivers" © http://www.iserv.net/~n8kdv/dxpage.htm |

Oh yeah, bought my Stridsberg MCA104 multicoupler there for $50... also got my two scanners there too, plus other stuff I can't think of right off hand. Not to bad. Many times I can find the radio cheaper somewhere else.Anyone actually had a good deal off Ebay with shortwave radios? Yes. Every radio I've bought through ebay has been a good deal. The trick is when you've identified a radio you're looking for, be patient, and wait for one to come along that's poorly listed, closing at an inconvenient time, or when several similar ones are closing within a short period of time. Another thing is I've picked up some not so well known radios on ebay - my ITT/Standard Str-428 was poorly listed, and few other bidders noticed it because it's not a well known model. But a little research on the brand told me it was probably going to be a good radio - so I bid. I had to create a power supply for it because it was designed for DC operation aboard ships, and one of these days I'll probably change the sideband filter to one I like better, but it's a very hot and stable radio. On my Applied Communications/Norlin SR-2150 I got a deal because everyone else was scared off by the high bidder's reputation. (at90210) The two times to bid on ebay are right away if you can get a super deal on it with "buy it now" or in the last several seconds of the auction. The exception to the rule is if it's one of my auctions. Then you should bid as much as you can right away, call all your friends and ask them to bid while you refinance your home so you can bid more. ![]() |

I got my last Kenwood R-5000 free on Ebay by wheeling a dealing smartly.
Heres how: A. Bought the first R-5000 W/VC-20 for $400. Sold the VC-20 for $150 lowering the cost of the R-5000 down to $250. B. Then sold the R-5000 for $560 minus the cost $250 = $310 profit. C.Took that profit and bought another R-5000 with filters and VC-20 for $440- $310 I made on the prior R-5000&VC-20 making the total cost of this R-5000 $130. D. Sold the VC-20 out of it for $150-$130 cost on the present R-5000 with all filters = $20 profit ( Which paid my Ebay/PayPal fees and and got the R-5000 with filters for nothing except it still needed the 6khz AM filter which RHF was nice enough to show me the way to INRAD for their Non-OEM Optional AM filter. And I saved $20.04 by ordering today. This may be a good year. Happy new year to all. Heres those auctions: A. The first Kenwood R-5000 I bought with the VHF converter for $400 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3040848856 B. Sold the KENWOOD VC-20 VHF for $150 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3047999411 C. KENWOOD R-5000 W/Manual Sold the radio for $560.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3047998069 D. Kenwood R5000 with 3 filters and VC-20 VHF bought $440.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3065515835 E. Kenwood VC-20 vhf converter for R-5000 sold for $150 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3067173972 73 and good DXing RX: R-5000, SP-600 JX-6, SX-28 Ant: 100' longwire, Evesdropper Dipole Brian's Radio Universe http://webpages.charter.net/brianehill/ |

I saw both right when they were listed and both had VC-20s for a reasonable Buy it Now price. One was $400 and the other $460 so right place right time kinda thing. -- 73 and good DXing RX: R-5000, SP-600 JX-6, SX-28 Ant: 100' longwire, Evesdropper Dipole Brian's Radio Universe http://webpages.charter.net/brianehill/ |

You guys have restored my faith in Ebay. Sounds like it takes some research,
patience and timing. snow wrote in message ...
