According to that page, the E1 XM is XM Satellite Radio or Digital
Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Ready. Whether this means they will have two
models, one for each, or whether it really means it is ready for both,
I don't know.

If it were only a DAB/XM model, there would be no reason to include the OTHER
features that same page mentions, like PBT, synch. detection, three BW filters,
BFO, etc. Maybe someone can help me with this, but I don't know how ANY of
those features would be needed in a DAB-only radio.
But yes, before having a full-scale, REAL press release of specs and features,
it's hard to say for sure what the radio will be able to do.
Regardless, I think's it's pretty safe to assume it's a general coverage HF
rig that is READY to do digital, provided the user subscribes to a service.
Should be fun!

GA,

What this REMINDS me of is the old RCA Jack on the back of some
1950's Radios that was labeled as "Ready for Television".

All it turn out to be was an external Audio input to take the
TV Audio and run it through the Larger Radio to get that Big
Old Radio Sound.

Just A Sales Gimmick

Don't mistake me YES - I Love Grundig Radios; but AFAIK this is
NOT going to be a "Grundig Satellit 900" but an Eton E1 with a
Questionable "XM" or "DAB" Added-On at what Extra Cost ? ? ?

What Is An ETON ?
Did The Mighty MAX of "G" Know ETON ?
Did MAX go to ETON= http://www.etoncollege.com/Splash.asp ?

ETON Corp. owes the future / potential buyers Full Disclosure
Lets have "Real Facts" - NOT - 'marketing fiction'.

Feelings are Facts !

The Grundig Satellit 900 was for many a 'portable' SWL Radio
Enthusiast the "Holy Grail" of Receivers To Be ! [NOT]

ETON Corp. by playing Brand Name Games with this Radio has
Killed The Dream for Many Proud Grundig Radio Owners.

This is not what is in question. I just wanted to know if there is
both XM and DRM reception. Given my druthers, I'd rather have DRM in
that rig. JMHO.

See Eton's NEW page on the E1 XM at:

Does it really matter what name goes on the radio? The Eton E1 XM
will be what the Grundig 900 was to be. Why keep calling the radios
Grundig when Grundig isn't involved in designing them anymore? I am
sure this is only the first of many new SW radios to come with the
Eton name on them. As far as satellit ready -- my understanding is
that the radio will NOT come with the small satellite antenna
necessary to pick up the signal, plus you have to subscribe to
satellite radio. So it will be ready - the receiver for satellite
radio is there. If this were not the case, most radios would be
satellite ready.

I still can't believe the geniuses at Eton didn't opt to put two speakers on
a large portable radio that receives subscription digital stereo radio.

Yes, I know you could do the old "computer speakers" upgrade through the
headphone jack, but it still seems foolish to me.

Whether it be the Satellit 800 or the new Eton E1 XM, Eton is trying
to offer a decent item at lower than usual price. Therefore, the
Satellit 800 pretty much used the old Satellit 600/650 case and
ergonomics with the Drake SW8 circuitry. The Eton E1 XM pretty much
uses the case already designed for the Satellit 900. Cutting costs
like that makes a HUGH difference in the price they can sell it for.
To add another speaker means a totally different case, not to mention
other added costs, and a more powerful amplifier. That would put the
radio in another price class.

Yes, there ARE geniuses at Eton Corporation. They have already proven
that.

STINGER,

Why Mono-Phonic Sound? -&- Why Not Dual Bi-Aural Sound?

Grundig AG (Germany) use to make a few of there "RTV" AM/FM/LW/SW
Home Stereo Radios with one built-in speaker and a detachable second
speaker. (True Stereo Sound with Separation.)

The "Grundig Satellit 800" and now the 'eton e1 xm' radio both lend
themselves to having a simple jack on the back for an 'optional'
Detached Satellite Speaker for Stereo Listening and true separation
of the two audio channels.

Most of the 'eton e1 xm' radio owners would simply like using
their radios as they are in "Mono-Phonic" only. With headphones
or a pair of external speakers for FM or XM Stereo Radio Listening.
But, those who wanted the look and sound of a Dual Bi-Aural Sound
System and the LOOK of a Radio witha Matching Speaker (Tivoli Model
2).
Tey then could BUY the 'optional' Detached Satellite Speaker and
Enjoy True Stereo Sound by having both speakers. Plus, Eton Corp.
would have a Follow-On (Optional) Product to sell with their radios.
{An Additional Product and Profit Center for their Top-of-the-Line
radios.

The above approach keeps the size of the radio itself down in the
large 'portable' range and does not have it expand up to the Bigger
"BOOMBOX" Size.
