And can LORAN be picked up on SW? 73 Utilities or 'Utes' are basically any shortwave signal which does not emanate from the transmitter of an international (progamming) broadcaster or amateur radio 'ham'. This includes data transmissions, military communications, ship to shore, transoceanic aircraft and continuous time stations. LORAN is no longer transmitted on shortwave.
