Removed the parts from the board for cleaning and rechecked their values before reinstalling. It turned out to be simply a matter of realigning the PLLs - "different board -" What's the different board? Interesting, mine was white and waxy - I researched it first and the information I picked up, mostly from the Kenwood reflector (info at http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/kenwood) was that it was Japanese beeswax. Anyhow, the VCOs are on the RF unit (X44-3010-00) on the right hand side when you remove the bottom cover and have the receiver facing you. The PLLs are on the PLL unit (X50-3030-00) on the left hand side when the unit is facing you. Alignment procedure for the VCOs is on page 71 of the service manual and for the PLLs is on page 70. My VCOs did not require alignment but a couple of the PLLs were way off. Dave |

![]() Sure wish there were cheaper rates for service! I've checked on the original manufacturer of the PLL chips and apparently Kenwood bought up ALL of the discontinued line. Anyone for a game of MONOPOLY? Common practice unfortunately.... Yaesu got a custom PA out of Motorola for the FT-100 - bought the entire lot... |
