$350? Good luck! I just traded one for a case of beer, they're not
really worth much. There's a bunch of suckers out there, then. My uncle has an old radio that uses TUBES that picked up stations better than that Icom. Sounds like an ignorant casual type, not realizing that there are many factors which would result in better reception with tube gear over solid-state gear, none of which would have anything to do with the radio in question (R71) being a bad receiver per se. If I'm listening to a strong station, my old Silvertone console (with its beautiful tuning eye) will sound ultra-sweet indeed, better than any modern gear I use. But try using that console for anything beyond basic, moderate-to-strong signal listening, and it's quickly left in the dust of the modern stuff. But hell, I'd LOVE to come across more morons who hate their lousy, worthless Icoms and would take a sixer of redneck juice from me to take this terrible stuff off their hands. For that matter, all those who hate their nice cars, well-built homes, etc... you get the idea. Amazing. Linus |
