Well, I got my SW8 back from R.L. Drake. Several components were replaced,
including the mixer transistors. Sensitivity is better than it started out as, but still, it the worst one out of my collection. MW performance is ok with a longwire, but nothing to write home about, when using the Radio Shack loop antenna. Response is flat over the tuning range, but it appears that the designer of this radio only designed for adequate sensitivity, not going for the "all out". The sad thing about this is................the SW8 uses an active dual JFET mixer, and my own receivers that use a passive diode ring mixer have a better noise figure. Somebody wasn't in a good mood when they threw this thing together. This unit is up for trade. Interested parties can feel free to contact me directly. Pete |
