While scanning this morning early I ran across a show with a gentleman
discussing the moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos. "Cool" I thought. Being an novice amateur astronomer I was excited to hear a show that discussed such things on SW. As it turns out, it was a religious station and the "gentleman" was presenting evidence that the two moons are actually NOT orbiting Mars any longer. They are now orbiting Earth. As a matter of fact they are indeed two of the seven trumpets presented in Revelations that herald the second coming of Christ. He has also miraculously calculated the actual ratio of people-time to God-time. It appears that every 4.7 days to us is actually one second to God and based on the biblical account in Revelations it is clear that we only have a few "seconds" left to get our affairs in order. I used to think that radio stations that carried these kooks should be shut down but since my love affair with SW I have changed my opinion. It is incredibly interesting to hear the level of diversity out there. I love to hear this stuff. Anyone want to share your finds like this? Clear Skies and 73, -Al |

I was listening at approximately 0630 Central time (1230 UTC). I logged the freq but I don't have the book with me right now. I'll post it tonight after I get home. I do know that I heard what I think to be "Christian Broadcasting..." something. It was very strong. Kentucky perhaps. His evidence was a bunch of "according to reliable sources" types of things. I suspect he subscribes to various conspiracy theory organizations and basically believes whatever he hears. He quoted the bible (Revelations primarily) but ultimately he wrapped up the show with a statement to the effect of "*I* believe these moons are actually orbiting Earth....". I intend to let my Astro Society know as well. We have several SW listeners. I'll try to post more tonight. Clear Skies and 73, -Al |

They are now orbiting Earth. snipped That's news to the astronomical community. Especially since the two moons of Mars can still be seen orbiting the planet. One of the Mars landers (Opportunity) recently observed both moons eclipsing the sun. What you heard is just another example of certain religious 'kooks' on shortwave. What scares me is they may actually believe stuff like this. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

That's why we sent those little rovers to Mars: to try to find out where its
moons went. |
