From: "MnMikew" In short, you're not going to answer my question but are going to defer the answer by striking back with your own less precisely-defined notion of a neo-conservative. SOP for Bryant. When confronted with a question he can't or dosen't want to answer, he iqnores you. You need to read. I think I've done a fairly good job of defining neo-cons over the past 12 hours. Far more effort than you've put into defining what's meant by the phrase "liberal." In the interest of good will, peace and world harmony, I was going to move on from this discussion. But I just can't now. Here's you on neo-con: "Neo is a prefix meaning 'near.'" So you think you're doing "fairly good job of defining neo-cons" when you don't even know what the blankety blank word literally means? It does -not- refer to "near conservatives." It primarily refers, once again, to a group of former liberals (the political writer Norman Podhoretz, for one) who began to reassess their positions in the '70s and '80s and became "new conservatives." The word has since been expanded to include certain others who have been strongly influenced by those individuals. I really wouldn't have belabored this if you didn't seem so firmly convinced that you have a grip on this when you don't. |

![]() "Michael Bryant" wrote in message ... From: (LW) Neo indicates "new". I'm not new to conservatism. Been here forever. Till the "other side" can produce something better than Clintons and Gores and Kerrys and Kennedys, I'll be right here. Real, oldtime, conservatives were opposed to unrestrained spending, US foreign adventurism and violations of the Constitution. Neo-cons don't mind those things, at all, as long as they work to increase their political hold on the country. How can I put this diplomatically and in a non-judgmental manner? OK....you have no idea what you are talking about here. |

I just didn't feel like repeating it. See my post somewhat earlier about your misconceptions regarding the term neo-con. You know, basic stuff like what the word means ![]() |

So, what's your spin on the word neo-natal? Look up the prefix "neo", genius. It primarily refers, once again, to a group of former liberals (the political writer Norman Podhoretz, for one) who began to reassess their positions in the '70s and '80s and became "new conservatives." The neo-cons really are something different from traditional conservatives. Thank you. You just admitted my original point. You are just sooo smart! And you are just sooo stupid! |

![]() "LW" wrote in message m... ocom (Michael Bryant) wrote ... How come all you neocons that are so busy rationalizing a moral base for torture are ignoring the words of your own leader? All neocons? Painting with a rather wide brush here, yes? What *exactly* is a "neocon"? From Ask Jeeves: Neoconservative - A "neocon" is more inclined than other conservatives toward vigorous government in the service of the goals of traditional morality and pro-business policies. Tends to favor a very strong foreign policy of America as well. |
