for health reasons..
So I will need company for this arduous, daily journey..

Am seriously thinking about plunking down
$$ to buy a Kaito KA 105 Pocket size radio

I have one. For a shirt pocket radio and for the price you probably
cannot do better. I like mine. Just don't expect it to outperform
radios costing costing double or more in price.

Buy a Sony SW1. You can get one on Ebay. It's a great radio and you
can fit it in your shirt pocket.
