Default KA1102 mw performance

Hiya...

Has anyone else with the KA1102 also found it to be VERY good for mw ???

Asside from my GE SRIII, my KA1102 is the best portable that I have ever had
for mw. At times, I still prefer to use the KA1102 for mw over the SRIII
because it is digital.

YES!! I have noticed the same thing... excellent MW sensitivity. I'm even
close to a flamethrower AM station (KSTP 1500 AM), just a few miles away,
and yet the KA1102's performance is unaffected by the proximity of this
station (can't say this for some other radios I've had).

I live next to a whole GAGGLE of flame throwers... LOL.... Lots of ground
water for conductivity in the Meadowlands area of NJ, so a good place to set
up a mw transmitter. Not to mention the huge media market in the NY/NJ
metro area. 50 kilowatt transmitters to spare :-) The KA1102 is selective
enough to be able to deal with it with little or no intermod.

Still, it is not quite perfect. It does have some noise when you listen to
a very weak station. If I listen to WBT 1110 in Charlotte, NC or WTAM 1100
in Cleveland... Both 50 kilowatt... I still get some snap crackle and pop
with the KA1102. My SR III doesn't get the snap, crackle and pop, but it
takes more effort to tune cause it is not digital like the KA1102.
Regardless, the KA 1102 is the best mw portable I ever used aside from the
SR III.

I can never hear KSTP here in NJ... It gets squashed by WTOP 1500 in DC.
Im not even sure what direction KSTP nulls to at night. I'm fairly sure it
goes directional at night. At any rate, WTOP 1500 usually sounds great here
in NJ. Currently listening to WTOP now... They just gave a sports report
and now traffic. You would think it was local. Very strong with just a bit
of crackle.

Does anyone know how it compares (on MW performance) with its analog
sibling, the WRX911 (which also gets some favorable comments)?
Thanks,

I have both, and can tell you that you definitely want to stay with the
1102. The analog WRX911 is a single-conversion design. If you're near any
flamethrower signals, they're going to be everywhere on your dial.

Though not in the same league for MW as a CC Radio Plus or a Grundig
S350/Tecsun BCL-2000, my Kaito 1102 does very well on MW.

The WRX911 (a Kailong/Kaito "original", AFAIK) is not in any way related
to the KA1102, which is a rebranded Degen DE1102. Thus, "sibling" does
not really apply. Both radios are very different overall (full-featured
"digital" portable with dual conversion, SSB reception and selectable
filters vs. broadcast-only single conversion analog).
