Somewhere along the time line in our (USA) recent past a divide
developed
that has deepened to the point that the left and the right have
nothing
but hate for each other. I suspect that at the current rate of growing
hatred we will have real violence in a decade. Maybe sooner if Kerry
wins.
To those on the right, you appear to be the "ulitimate liberal". To
you, based on your writtings, those on the right can't be trusted to
potty trian a puppy.
I am not saying that you are the "ultimate liberal", just the
positions you
take look like tht way, or that you are trying to "prove" how smart
you are,
or, they are calculated to inflame the emotions of others just to
"****" them off.
A friend related a story to me about how he had been cut off by an
idi^^^, unskilled driver in a truck and when my friend beeped his
horn, the other
driver unloaded with some nasty verbal abuse. My friend decided to
return
the favor. He managed to get the other guys attention. Oh boy how he
got the
other guys attention. The other dirver bounded from his still moving
truck and ran back and threatened my friend. A bad move as it is
pretty easy to get a CCL. My friend brought his weapon into the other
guys view and advised him to back off, at the same time he called 911.
The other guy ran like a rabit.
My only point of this is to show that words have an effect. And that
effect can
be much stronger then you foresee.
I have been a long time lurker and have seldom posted as I do not want
to get
in a screaming match. As I tell my friends, "if I wanted to fight I
would have joined the USMC". I am just pointing out that you simply do
not appear to understand the current cultural split and that in your
own way, IMHO, you are helping to drive a wedge to deepen that split.
I don't know how or when it began, but many on the right look at all
of those on the left as traitors who should at best be locked up.
At worst....
I check this group about once a week and have watched strong words fan
flames
of real hate. Try an experiment, use google to pull up ALL of your
posts. Print them and give them to a friend and ask them what they
think. Ask them if you come off like a reasonable person or a jerk. I
am not saying you are a jerk,
and I am not I saying that you shouldn't defend your position, but
life is
not a debate class. Most people don't argue with logic. They use their
"gut feelings". So don't be shocked when your ****ed off enemies use
every legal means to make your life hell. From the comments in this
group, I would guess that might include mailing any newspaper
clippings and police reports that
might happen to exist to your place of employment. MAybe even to local
media outlets.
I am not saying you have done anything wrong, and I don't care. But
your words don't help communicate your position, they only drive
people further away from any attempt at understanding. They have seen
what, to them, 40 years of liberalism have done to the USA. Where you
see progress they see a deep moral decline.
I am really frightened of our future. I have seen people write down
the license plate numbers of cars that have liberal bumper stickers. I
fear it won't be all that long before they start acting and just
"shutting up" the liberals who are foolish enough to come to their
attention. I drive a plain Civic with no political slogans of any
kind. An informal survey has convinced me that when push comes to
shove, the left will wring their hands while the right will act. My
friends are about evenly split into the left and right camps. But only
the "right wingers" have firearms.
As Mao said "power flows from the barrel of a riffle".
(Power in this useage means political not physical)
I have given up on getting any information on anything connected to
shortwave
radio. I use this, and a few other, groups as a gauge to show me how
fast we
are drifting apart. Between the hate in this NG, the hate on Rush's
show, and the hate from the political left, I expect the real blood
letting to start very soon.
I suspect that this honest effort will result in a barage of hate from
both
sides. In part I wrote this because I wanted to see how everyone would
respond.
And in part you asked what appeared to be a real question.
I view this a chance to test some of my theories against a real world
event.
A friend, who is also a SWL is here and, besides insiting that I am a
fool
for daring to post this, wants to bet me that you will take me to
task for my mispellings and poor grammer.
Time will tell.
