writes Inflatables. Not ships. Probably the Royal Marines. They are notorious for being unable to navigate. They once landed in Spain instead of Gibraltar when on a coastal patrol. The difference is only a few yards, there are no signs saying 'you are entering Spain' nor is there a demarcating fence at the place they were practicing landing on a beach. Isn't that like saying "A little pregnant" or "The bullet *almost* missed him"? International incidents have been caused by very small pieces of real estate...it's something about territorial integrity, something Washington seems to be painfully unaware of. mike |

I'm sure if some Canadian soldiers strayed a few yards into the US by accident it would not cause an incident. These days Spain is supposed to be a member of NATO anyway. One bit of beach looks much like any other and they had the good sense to regroup quickly. In the past the Spanish Police have landed illegally on our beaches, the second time they came the RGP were waiting for them. The British squaddies were not stupid enough to make the same mistake again here. -- Jim Watt http://www.gibnet.com |
