Default Favorite hurricaine frequencies?

With two big storms bearing down on Florida, how about compiling a list of
everybody's fave frequencies for monitoring the action?

690KHz is a good place to start. The Jacksonville station has been
known to operate all night on daytime (non-directional) facilities
during hurricane emergencies.

Other AM news/talk stations may do the same. I suppose 620 and 970 (on
the west coast) and 940 (Miami) would be good frequencies to try. If
it's serious enough, pretty much any station (including the puny little
ones) can be worth trying.

K9RZZ,

dxace provided a GREAT link yesterday. Here it is again:

BTW: I listen primarily to 14.325USB because it is radio amateurs talking with the National Hurricane Center. This morning in SE
Florida (Aug 8 8:52am EST) the signals are coming in OK. Yesterday reception was awful.

One more note:

Some may find this a GREAT help; make a laminated card for hurricane and/or EMERGENCY frequencies! I often make these 'cards' and
keep them right next to the radio for easy retrieval of information. For example, I have laminated cards for the 'Operation Guide'
for the Icom 706MKIIG transceiver. There is a card with standard ITU Phonetics, Q Signals, the RST System and CW abbreviations. You
get the picture.

One of the nice things modern technology permits is REDUCTION of printed material. I normally get a real good printout (or scan) of
something to be laminated, take it to the local office supply store and REDUCE the image to a fraction of its size on the
photocopier, then laminate it. Works great! Laminated 'cards' are harder to lose than paper, they're VERY durable, and water proof!

All the best,
Vic

PS: they also hold up well in the glove box of a vehicle. Some of mine have been in the glove box for nearly ten years, in the heat
of Florida even, and they've held up well.
