The Creative Labs TravelSound II
http://us.creative.com/products/prod...8&nav=features is small & stereo and works okay for $50, takes 4 AA's, claims 25 hours. I don't know what to use it for exactly; I was thinking playing a RadioYourWay back might be a nice application. They suggest MP3 players etc. You could brighten your 7600G with it, I guess, though the number of rechargeable AA's you'd be using at once is starting to grow to almost unmanageable proportions. It takes a 5v wall wart but one is not supplied. It's about the size of a YB400 as it sits unfolded on the table. It has a switch that seems to be meant to be an AGC, if I understand the cryptic instruction sheet, that appears to have no affect whatsoever. Perhaps it actually has no effect, since they don't seem to advertise it. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

I use mine with a 7600G, and it's quite good (certainly better than the internal speaker) although I find the "crackling" highs from interference to be quite sharp. My other complaint is that the stand is "tippy" and has an inclination to fall forward if one isn't careful. Mine takes 4 AAA's-- rechargeables last a substantial amount of time--in excess of 20 hours certainly. It is also the best small (well, tiny really) portable speaker I've heard for reproducing music from an mp3 player. Mine has volume buttons and something that purports to be a "surround" switch that I don't use very much. |

One of my pet peeves concerns the number of batteries in a lot of portable devices. A lot of them take **three** batteries. All the chargers I've seen take either two or four batteries at a time. That's how they're sold, too. How does someone go about easily charging that odd battery out? If it's done right, you'd need at least four batteries and rotate regularly through the things to make sure they all get used evenly. That means marking each one individually. For the camera I use there are four batteries. I have two sets of them. Each set is marked as a group..aaaa and bbbb. No confusion or mixing. mike (bitching about everything) II |

Accupower Accumanager 20 does AAA to D's individually up to 4, plus up to two 9v. The old CCrane QuickCharger does up to 4 AAA to D's, but in parallel, so a dirty contact will leave you with an uncharged battery since you can't monitor them. This charger has a meter, though, and is handy to have. Also it will sometimes start to charge a battery others will reject as defective, that can then be charged on the others. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

I bought the Ray-o-vac PS4 after seeing people in the GPS newsgroup rave about it. Charges one to four AA/AAA batteries (or one 9V) in one hour, separately (i.e. not in parallel); one failing battery drops out with a flashing light while the others continue to charge. I'm really happy with it. -- "The truth, which is what elections are all about, is that the tax burden of the middle class has gone up while the tax burden of the middle class has gone down." -- John Kerry, August 26, 2004 |
