Anyone tried listening to DRM broadcasts on shortwave? If so, what
sort of quality did you get, and what equipment did you use? Just curious; the curious chap that I am. :-) A schedule of DRM transmissions - http://www.drm.org/livebroadcast/centrlivebroadcast.htm .................................................. ............... Check out the DRM section of my web site for some sample audio clips.

To me it was crystal clear, well modulated - I would have to say better than FM quality. In my case, I had to experiment with the software configuration and tune the stream USB a bit. IIRC, this was for the broadcast out of Bonaire by RNW. -=jd=- -- My Current Disposable Email: (Remove YOUR HAT to reply directly) Thanks for that, JD. I hope to acquire some sort of DRM setup early next year. .................................................. ............... Looks like I'll be dabbling in DRM within a few months. Apparently, there is an upgrade available for my AR7030, but the 2 spare filter sockets are used up in the process, meaning the one I added would have to come out to make way for DRM, leaving only the 4 factory-fitted defaults available. Will need to think about it. Good DX. Ian Smith, Clydebank, Scotland. .................................................. ............... Will need to think about it. An extensive mod is not needed for the AR7030, since its "9.5 kHz" position is wide enough. All that's needed is a downmixer with f_mix = 467 kHz to be attached to the receiver's 455 kHz IF output. There are two documents available at http://www.drmrx.org/receiver_mods.html which should get you a lot further already. The Fraunhofer mod was quite a bit more complex, but the document contains a nice mixer circuit (a more inexpensive version of which is discussed in the second document). Here in .de a finished mixer board as sold by Sat-Service Schneider http://home.t-online.de/home/sat-service/sat/DRM/DRM.htm is quite popular, mostly in the crystal version. Very small thing it seems (thus popular for portable rx mods), and they've got a PDF with the circuit, too. All you'd need in addition to that would be a small case with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a cable (as short as possible) with a matching DIN plug for the IF output jack.
