I was listening to radio Australia today on 21740 until 00:00 UTC
when they switched to 17795 and 17715. The 16 meter signals are very weak and noisy today. They usually come in quite well on both frequencies with 17715 a little stronger most days. 21740 was very strong today. I see we have a solar flare in progress. http://www.sec.noaa.gov/rt_plots/dregion.html -- Telamon Ventura, California |

It's 01:12 UTC and I'm still listening to static on both 16 meter frequencies. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

For me 15515 is usually best this time of day. New Zealand noisy on 17675 S2 to S4 peak where they are usually S9 and that flare is still going! -- Telamon Ventura, California |

The flare is finally fading and New Zealand is coming up in strength S4 to S6 and sounding good. Still not as strong as usual thought. Australia weak S3 to S5 and noisy on 15515 and only just audible on 15240. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

They both sound like locals which is the usual reception at this time for me. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

I think he's ignoring you... Don't find the anatomy of a solar flare interesting? Oh well. Sure I do. Any event on a local sun that has such great effects on this planet is downright amazing. I was merely surprised at the number of people named Telamon on this group. That and how they post one right after the other. *You* seem to be the only sociable one in that group. The rest of the Telamons are, by the looks of it, snooty buggers. I like the fact that the Internet can be used to monitor the Sun in real time and hear the effect on long distance radio communications on my radios. Between this and radio...well..it's the best of all possible worlds. The combination gives everyone a chance to compare reception patterns over huge distances in a few minutes. This would have been fantasy in the fifties. Speaking of things fantastic, there was a clear out sale of laser pointers at a store here. Three 1.5 volt watch type batteries included along with two different pattern lenses. A dollar forty nine Can$. Lasers in the hands of common folk were science fiction back then too. mike |
