Needed, alignment instructions for same. AM/FM #12-903. At one outlet
they told me it was permanently aligned. #%! I asked them if it was aligned to either the left or right and got that old familiar "Dumb" look! TIA |

I asked them if it was aligned to either the left or right and got that old familiar "Dumb" look! TIA So how is it out of alignment? Does it seem to have to have two IF peaks on AM or FM? Do the actual frequencies track with the dial calibrations? Is the FM distorted? I've never had the back off one of these particular sets, but most of the Asian analog radios have more or less standardized color codes on the IF transformer adjustments and such, and are usually pretty easy to figure out. If the radio used to work well and has just recently started showing problems, the original adjustments may still be good but something else might have failed. Twisting screws on a radio with a bad bypass capacitor or solder joint will end up wasting alot of time and effort. Please excuse my ignorance, I don't know what " aligned to either the left or right " any more than the Radio Shack guy did. Frank Dresser |

[snip] Like most inexpensive radios bought these days, I don't think it's economically feasible for the manufacturers(usually China or Mexico) to spend any more time on production than warranted (in their opinion), even though it or the next one on the line may produce completely different results. [snip] Poor quality control is nothing new. I like to fix up old tube radios, and I've found all sorts of factory defects such as miswiring, poor soldering, poor mechanical fits, etc. Tracking errors aren't uncommon, and it seems there isn't any discrimation in price class. My two best trackers are a Hallicrafters S-40A and a S-38. The tracking on my more expensive SX-62 and TW-1000 is only so-so and is only right on at two or three places on the dial. Frank Dresser |

Radio Shack employees, dumb comments. The two go together.
