Tonight, I found out that one of the six Radio Shack AA batteries in my Grundig YB400PE has leaked and caused significant damage to the case and innards of the radio. Tomorrow morning, I plan to return the radio, the leaking battery, the other batteries from the radio, the six remaining new batteries in the carton, and, of course, the carton. I haven't kept the receipt, but the batteries are clearly marked "Radio Shack". I would be satisfied with a refund for the batteries and a new radio--since a repair would probably cost more than the radio. I intend to be friendly with the staff. What can I expect from Radio Shack at the retail level? Will this be a drawn-out thing with letters and phone calls to head office back and forth for weeks? Thanks for any useful advice. My guess is they will look at your batteries, radio and damage and say: "We've got some great sales right now on cell phones! How about a cell phone?" Tony |

Tony Probably the funniest parody to the deer-in-the-headlights response by RS employees that I have ever heard. Let's hope their actual reply is a little more on target. Of the 8 or so stores in Virginia Beach I have actually met a few employees that were knowledgeable, helpful, and problem-solvers. They obviously aren't paying the bills from radio hobbyist purchases, so I guess we're lucky the chain even caters to us at all anymore. And thanks for reminding us to take the batteries *out* of our SW's when they aren't being used. I probably have my YB400PE stoked with the same batteries, but I never had any problem with them in that radio or hh scanners either. Jack |

Jack I have the same impression, RS has has upgraded to Employee 1.1. They still tend to push the phones, but only after the rest of the transaction has been completed. I wouldn't ask then am engineering question but they seem to be familiar with the inventory, which is all I ask. -- Al Dykes ----------- adykes at p a n i x . c o m |
