Default good list for tropical bands ???

Hiya....

Are there any good up to date listings for the tropical bands that are
available ??? Tropical band DX'ing is lots of fun because there always
seems to be lots of surprises, but for the same reason, I always have a hard
time figuring out what I'm hearing. Half the time I'm hearing something
other then what I think it is. There are a lot of good on-line lists for
the sw bands, but I cant find a good tropical band list.

Any suggestions ???

Hi Michael,

In my opinion the best tropical band lists are not online, but available for
a low price. My favorite every year is the Domestic Broadcast Survey (DBS)
published by the Danish SW Club International. You can get it emailed to you
as a PDF. I believe the cost was just $10 US. cash. Turn-around time for me
was only 3 or 4 days after mailing the envelope.

The DBS is in its sixth edition, and it includes their Tropical Bands Survey
(32nd edition). They've been compiling this information for a long time, and
the DSWCI folks are very good at it! Contact them at: www.dswci.org

Another useful one is the Tropical Band List put out by German radio
enthusiast Willi Passmann. Here's a link from Radio Nederland that tells all
about it: http://www.rnw.nl/realradio/booklist/html/tbl.html The TBL can
be purchased in single issues or by subscription.

Probably the most accurate one for Latin America is this one, updated often:

Thanx !!! Multiple lists will be even better. :-)

Any idea what it was I might have heard on 4115 a few times between 6 and 8
UTC ??? Was music in Spanish. It was a fair signal the three times I heard
it, but it had major fade. It went from about S-6 and clear all the way
down to nothing. I couldn't find any listing for this at all. Also.. I'm
sure it was exactly 4115. That is where the zero beat was for sure.

No idea here.

Perhaps a harmonic of some sort.

I would agree with DXace. Perhaps a mixing product? How about this scenario:

5025 - (2 X 455) = 4115 This could be R. Rebelde, Cuba, coming in at 2X
below a 455 kHz IF frequency.

That could be it. Still, I'm not sure. I've heard it three times in the
past month. The next time I hear it I'll check 5025. If that isnt it, I'm
going to record it until there is a clear station break and then play it at
work to a friend that speaks Spanish.

Yes, Guy is correct. It could also be a mixing product rather than an outright
harmonic, but I think what Guy is describing is of course receiver generated
rather than a situation where two transmitters are involved. (And I'm certain
that Guy would be more adept at describing that situation than I would, and I'll
certainly defer to him if he decides to do so.) I would tend to agree more with
that assessment as I see no actual harmonic reported on that frequency on
http://www.sover.net/~hackmohr/sw.htm and I searched Hauser's site for 4115 and
came up with nothing.
