@iwon.com says... for the last few months miami got hit with hurricane after hurricane.. in buying supplies i bought a small handheld radio that receives SW.. its from a brand called LIFELONG.. at the time all i wanted was a battery operated handheld radio for when the power went out.. in playing around with it i noticed how much fun listening to SW can be, and id like to get into it as a hobby.. is there a FAQ for this newsgroup? and what other good sites are there for a beginer? thanks I'll second the recommendation that you pick up a copy of "Passport to World Band Radio." It's an excellent resource for beginner and veteran alike. Visit www.passband.com for details. The 2005 edition is just coming out, too. Also, you'll want to subscribe to Monitoring Times magazine. Each month they publish the shortwave equivalent of a "TV Guide" showing what stations are scheduled to broadcast at a given time, and on what frequency. It's an excellent aid to finding programming on the shortwave bands. MT also carries a lot of information about other aspects of the radio hobby, including scanning and amateur radio, so it'll definitely expand your horizons a bit. -- -- //Steve// Steve Silverwood, KB6OJS Fountain Valley, CA Email: |
