Anybody have any words of wisdom regarding the relative merits of the
Harris 590A, Ten Tec RX 340 and the Rockwell Collins 2050-for MW and SW use? Is one clearly superior to another? Bill |

Bill That would be a good question for the folks at Premium-RX. They originally formed as a support group for people who were buying the 2050's when they first hit the surplus market. They've evolved into covering virtually all microprocessor controlled rack mount radios. Based on what I've read - the Collins is probably more interesting for historical reasons - it was the first DSP IF radio. The power supplies in them run very hot, and parts are getting tough to find. They do perform well. The Harris is going to have better build quality than the ten-tec. My 550 is built like a tank. But the reason I'd be more likely to go for the Harris is odds are 10-20 years from now, if it breaks, it'll be easier to find replacement parts. |
