At 7:05 UTC I was picking up a broadcast at 7297 or 7298. I figured its
either India or Malaysia. At 7:08 its music, a female vocalist. I still can't tell which language, but the music is fascinating. I'm thinking its Indian rather than Malaysian. Can anyone confirm. (New music and the instrumentation says Indian, too.) Lots of static. I have to get a real antenna on this Satellit 800. Having a shack in the basement of an aluminum sided house is not good. Harlan,
You probably heard Radio-Television Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur from Kajang... but their actual frequency is 7295. I've not known them to be very drifty, so it's likely your Sat 800 was off-tuned, not them. There is a 10 kW All India Radio station from Aizawl which broadcasts on 7295 also, but it's unlikely you would pick them up in the basement of an aluminum-sided house in Chicago... The 100 kW Malaysian station is more likely. Aizawl would also be less likely to propagate to Chicago on 41 meters at 0705 UTC because it's midday in India at that time; Kajang is somewhat closer to the terminator. If you hear them again, listen for the "RTM" ID at the top of the hour (sometimes its just the initials, othertimes the full Radio Television Malaysia). You could also try for parallels on some of their other frequencies like 4895, 5030, 6050, and 7270 kHz... also at the top of the hour when they usually relay the news for the first 10 minutes. 73, Guy Atkins Puyallup, WA "H Davis" wrote in message ... Harlan,
Greetings from the West Coast in Southern California. Hope that you and the Family had a great Thanksgiving Holiday! From your reception description I would suspect that you were tune to India which mixes English and Hindi during that time period of 0700-0730 GMT/UTC. Also Radio Malaysia is scheduled in Englsh 24 hrs per day at 100kw whilst India is at about 50 kw. Hope the info is fruitful to you. Good Listening and DX often. Stewart H.
