As opposed to building a space-reaching Macgiveresque antenna out of
matchsticks and chewing gum. This telescoping unit seems like a really
nifty kit for the cash. Darren

It's just only a VHF/UHF discone antenna on a portable mast....

Correct! It is an antenna formerly used by the Swedish military (I used
one when I made my military duty.) As these are no longer used by the
military, a lot of them have reached the surplus market here in Sweden,
and now apparently also the US. It is good as a portable VHF/UHF discone
antenna, as this is what it was built to be.

You could of course use it as a glasfiber mast to support other antennas
if you like.

Lars

other groups' posts mention even a discone pulls in good signals for
good portable shortwave radios (from DX 398 group)

A few years ago I bought one of those Tiny Tuner antennas.(I still have
it too) It is nothing but a little piece of circuit board with a few
electronic parts on it and a long wire with a little alligator clip on
one end of the wire.I think I paid about $9.95 for it plus shipping and
handling charges. It takes a nine volt battery.Either that gadget was
defective when I got it or those Tiny Tuners just do not work at all.
