If you want to buy yourself the ultimate DX radio and catch up with dxAce
and get over 200 countries QSL'd then you better put one of these rigs in your Christmas stocking. IcomAmerica are closing out the Icom IC-756 PRO II this Christmas for only $2150. Check it out at Universal and HRO. The radio has an awesome digital receive section with full spectrum display using a 24 bit processor and a 32 bit DSP. No new receive only radio's are coming out with specs such as this. This rig will give you unparalleled opportunities for pulling in that really weak DX from the remotest weak stations. NOTE if you listen to high quality AM audio only, then this rig is not for you - stick with your Drake R8B for the best audio sound . an early HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s. RX Drake R8B, SW8 & ERGO software Sony 7600D GE SRIII BW XCR 30, Braun T1000, Sangean 818 & 803A. Hallicrafters SX-100, Eddystone 940 GE circa 50's radiogram Antenna's RF Systems DX 1 Pro, Datong AD-270 Kiwa MW Loop |

NOTE if you listen to high quality AM audio only, then this rig is not for
you - stick with your Drake R8B for the best audio sound ----- Would certainly disaggree with that statement. The r-8's have an active filter in the audio section cutting off at 5,000 Hz. Take an Icom 756 PRO, open the IF to 9KHz (a Drake can't do that, either)....sounds much better. The PRO 6KHz AM filter selection sounds very much like the -8B. ------ "John Plimmer" wrote in message ... Interesting question....
The only local Icom dealer has the 756 PRO III @ Rand 22,230 That includes the 14% VAT tax and converts to US$3,700 He hasn't got any 756 PRO II's as he says they are discontinued and not available in South Africa anymore. If I take up Universal's offer on a 756 PRO II and import one myself, then that would land me VAT & customs duty paid @ Rand 17,500 or US$2,920 It's expensive living in the Third World....!!
