Default Pop Comm's Gerry Dexter Nostalgia!

Greetings, The first time I saw Gerrys' name in print, was when I got my first
subscription to Popular Electronics in 1966. His name would appear on a list of
SWL's, who would send in monitoring logs each month. The only reason I remember
his name, is because he was the only contributing monitor who lived close to
me. My logic back then was that if Gerry could hear it, so could I. Popular
Electronics used to register us as SWL monitors, and even assign us placards
with call signs. Mine was WPE9IPH, and I still have it hanging on the shack
wall. I was DXing back then with a Knight-Kit Space Spanner, that I put
together myself. Nobody was more suprised than me, when the thing actually
worked. Does anybody else still have their Monitoring Certificate from Popular
Electronics? Good DXing to you, Gary

I did have the certificate at one point still in the late 70's, but some how it was
lost (darn), I was/am WPE8JSS.

I still have some of the certificates that Electronics Illustrated issued from the
60's.

I don't have my Monitoring Certificate, but I do still have my Space
Spanner, and it still works.

I have a callsign issued by the outfit in Cherry Hill, NJ - the name escapes
me at the moment.

That wasn't Hank Bennett, was it? He wrote the SWL column for Popular
Electronics back in the old days.

By the way, my old call was VE3PE2RC

No, it wasn't Hank, but I sure do remember his articles! I don't know for sure,
but I suspect Gerry was in his early teens in 1966, when his name would appear
on a list of DX log contributors, in Popular Electronics monthly shortwave
report. Good DXing to you, Gary
