![]() Coastal station operation set for Straight Key Night. Historic coastal station KPH and the Maritime Radio Historical Society's amateur station K6KPH will once again be on the air on New Year's Eve as part of Straight Key Night 2005. KPH will be on the air with transmissions from dusk to dawn (Pacific time) on the calling frequency of 500kHz and its working frequency of 426kHz. Chief operator Richard Dillman says the group is especially interested in reports of the MF transmissions, and have extended the hours from previous commemorative operations to give more listeners a chance to hear the signals. Operation will commence on MF about 0100 UTC, employing the station's 5KW Henry Radio transmitter and Marconi T antenna. Announcements will be made on 500kHz and a watch will be kept there. Press, weather, and other information will be sent on 426kHz. The amateur station will operate on 3545, 7050, and 14050 kHz with other possible frequencies to be announced, all using KPH's vintage HF gear. Ham activity will run from 0000-0600 UTC. Signal reports and QSLs may be sent to: Ms. Denice Stoops, P.O. Box 381, Bolinas CA 94924-0381. Straight Key Night is an annual amateur activity that encourages CW exchanges between participants using only straight keys, no "bugs" or electronic keyers. It runs from 0000 to 2400 on UTC date 1 January 2005. More information is available in an ARRL article on SKN. Pictures of KPH and information about the Maritime Radio Historical Society are available at the MHRS site http://www.radiomarine.org/ (LWCA) |
