"Coax-Seal" Sealant & "Stuf" for your Shortwave Listener
(SWL) Antenna's RF Connections [Weather Proofing] MIKE, It is Not good to use because it contains Chemicals that can cause the 'mechanical' Electrical Connections to "Corrode" {form an oxide} that will 'inhibit' the Electrical Conductivity of the mechanical Electrical Connection. However, If Silicon Sealer is 'all-you-got': 1. First wrap the 'mechanical' Electrical Connections with Black Electrical Tape. 2. Second use a Brush to Paint-Smear the Silicon Sealer all over the Electrical Tape and an Inch or two beyond. THE BETTER IDEA IS TO USE "COAX-SEAL" SEALANT The-Better-Way is to use "Coax Seal" as others have recommended here. As a very active Antenna builder both as a Ham and SWL I've tried many methods of sealing Antenna connections. What works best for me is a product called Liquid Electrical Tape (LET). .. You just brush it on and when it dries it's permanently waterproof, as in it won't eventually unwind like real electrical tape. If you want to remove it it comes right off without leaving all the goo behind like the putty type sealer does. .. Here in the U.S. you can find this product at Wal Mart, Lowe's and Home Depot. .. 73, Thomas F. Giella, KN4LF .. .. |

Coax seal under a center-end-end-center wrap of 33+ is unbeatable.
