It will wipe out the HF bands, although there have been some frequencies set aside that BPL can't operate on that have to do with aircraft and marine frequencies. The http://arrl.org web site has information on the BPL problem. It will also wipe out low VHF TV (channels 2-6, about 62-88 Mhz). But from what I've read I suspect that the FCC is seriously trying to end over the air TV broadcasting, so this may just be the excuse they need to pull the plug on analog TV and force every American to buy a pricey (several thousand dollars) high definition TV, and force them to use either cable or satellite services that have expensive monthly fees. I personally think the FCC may be playing with fire here-if there's one thing Americans care about, it's TV, and suddenly rendering 300 million + analog TV sets useless may create a severe backlash. The British pulled something similar off when they stopped all 405 line TV broadcasting, but the Brits care much less about TV than Americans do. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 100,000 Newsgroups ---= East/West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |

The plug won't be pulled on analog television any time soon. Too many people own analog televisions, and too few people have migrated to digital broadcasts to warrant the cutover yet. In other words, too many consituents for Congressmen would call up and complain for the FCC to follow through on the original transition plan. --Mike L. |
