Default Hey, Al!

Hey, Al! Where is the promise of his coming?
For, since the fathers fell asleep, all
has remained as it has been.

Better get Jesus on the phone, Al.
I think he overslept or something...

David,

You probably think you're smart, but you just help to prove the accuracy
of the Scriptures. Check out the verse just before the one you referenced.

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers
fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the
creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the
heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the
water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are
kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and
perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with
the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the
which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements
shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are
therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of
persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein
the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall
melt with fervent heat?

Al, Christians have used this section of Peter to "prove" that the last
days are upon us and that the "scoffers" need to repent RIGHT NOW or
else burn with "fervent heat" for centuries. And generation after
generation, century after century, for over a thousand years, the
scoffers have been proven right, and there has been no fiery end to the
earth, no second coming of Jesus. Where is the end that Christians have
been so certain is coming RIGHT NOW, have been certain of it for
centuries, have pointed to signs that they say fulfill the promises of
the Bible as a portent that the end is HERE, and each time they have
crashed into the concrete wall of reality, yet like a cartoon character
they pop back into shape and ram themselves yet again into the wall,
saying the end is here, and for 2000 years they have been disappointed.
Give up already! Jesus said that the end was coming in the lifetimes of
the people who listened to him speak, yet they all died without seeing
it, and the verse was reinterpreted to mean the current generation, and
the generations have passed and passed and a thousand generations have
passed, all of them certain that they would see the end, and all of them
have been disappointed, and all of them have taken their last breath and
said as their last words "the end is here" yet the end has never showed
up. And you too Al will say the end is here as you take your last
breath, and you too will be disappointed, and so will the generations
that come after you. Talk about a vicious killer meme! It's time to put
this meme to rest, and realize that the end is NOT coming. Guys like you
wanted to start a nuclear war so that the end would come, and thankfully
you didn't.
