I have the older non-plus version of the 7030; it also has the sync detector
as standard. Overall, not a bad receiver. It has become my bedtime radio of
the week.

It has been my bedtime radio for at least a year now.

I use it for the bedside radio because the remote is pretty handy on a
king size bed. I don't want to keep rolling over to the side to change
channels or make adjustments.

If I'm having insomnia I'll tune in George snorey or if I'm interested
in active listening I'll tune in short wave.

It is definitely a nice unit. The audio reminds me of an old SX-28 I had
years ago.
For bedtime listening, I usually switch off between the Palstar R30, the
AOR7030, the Lowe HF150, or one of my homebrew MW radios. The interesting
thing for me is when I listen to some of my favorite regional / graveyard
frequencies, they sound almost the same as they did when I was a kid in the
early 60s. I almost feel as if I am travelling back in time when I listen to
those channels. 1600kHz is interesting...................when I was working
out in Cedar Rapids, some of the folks used to listen to KCRG. It's kind of
fun hearing it surface every so often from the murk of all the other
stations on that frequency when evening rolls in.
WMT, 600kHz comes in pretty good in Chicago............in the evening, you
can hear a Columbian station on that frequency.
They did it right when they designed the 7030. About the only thing I will
do when I get around to it is replace that mechanical tuning encoder with an
optical unit. If the tuning setup is similar to the HF-150, I will only need
to remove a couple of pullup resistors, and maybe a couple of steering
diodes. Of course, I need to find 5V for the encoder. I need to pull out
that schematic.................
