Default Sony XR-CA620X shortwave car stereo...cd changer compatibility? Antenna? Cell phone conversations?

Hi,

I just won a new in box Sony XR-CA620X Xplod shortwave car stereo unit
on ebay. I want to buy a CD changer but I'm not sure what units are
compatible. Will it work with any Sony cd changer?

Next, I was planning to use my regular whip car antenna. Does anyone
recommend replacing the antenna with a better one for SW reception?

Finally, Some nutcase told me you can pickup cell phone conversations
with the XR-CA620X. Is that true? I can't be or is it?

Thanks any responses to this posting in answering these questions.
Peace.

I won a Xplod shortwave car stereo unit in a raffle at the 2005 SWL
Fest, but mine comes with a tape deck.

It was alright, unless you know many people and/or into listening to
pirate radio it is generally "empty"

I only found 2-3 fourms to be interesting, one was a fourm on rare
recordings run by Myke Weiskoph, good show but far less content than
from last year. Most of the other fourms seemed to be nothing more than
crying about how SW is dying.

Guess it would be fun to go just to possibly see some folks that I haven't seen
in a good number of years.

I don't know about the CD player, but the stock antenna on my
Pathfinder worked fine for SW. One time I ran some extra wire from
the antenna to the back of the vehicle with no noticeable improvement
in reception. More wire may have helped. Since selling the
Pathfinder, the stereo is now "installed" in my home shack using a
12-volt battery, bookshelf speakers, and outdoor longwire antenna.
And no, it won't receive cell phone frequencies.

Thanks Tom....Mine is a tape deck also. Just curious as to what kind of
CD changer it would be compatible with, what kind of antenna would be
good, and does yours pick up cell phone conversations? Some nutcase
told me that...I don't believe him though. I should be receiving my
Sony SW for the car by next week. Really excited.

Thanks Monte...I knew that guy who told me it received cell phone
frequencies was a nutcase...the GREY aliens living under the DULCE
military Base in New Mexico probably told him that...LOL. Do you know
why they do not sell shortwave for american automobiles? Deal with the
state dept? Just curious.

Thanks

No sales in the states is likely due to practically no demand rather
than any international trade laws or the state department. I bought
mine new from Jacky's a few years ago and there was no problem getting
it. DHL delivered it to my office in three or four days.

By the way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's a real pleasure having a
convenient option to listen to shortwave during the commute or on a
long road trip.
