You couldn't miss him driving by when I was a kid.

I think the fact that it was General Goldwater's car makes the antenna
an important accessory. ****er should be in the Smithsonian next to
Archie's chair.

On a 63' split-window coupe!
I'll bet that install was later regretted...

Arizona license plate I saw on that car.Only a fool would have a radio
and an antenna like that on any car.I don't doub't that somebody
(perhaps one of bush's ILLEGAL WETBACKS!) has already stolen that car
with the radio and antenna too.It is probally running around somewhere
in Mexico by now.

Only a fool would have a radio and an antenna like that
on any car............

Why would that be? All my vehicles have such devices...
The only problem I see on that vette, is it's all plastic....
That bumper is not going to cut it as far as a good
counterpoise for that antenna...I hope someone ran
some grounding strap, or at least heavy wire around the
body innerds, and grounded to the frame. Both of my
trucks would likely beat his setup like a lost stepchild.
Lots of metal under my antennas.
You can see a pix of one he
http://web.wt.net/~nm5k/fd03-1.jpg
That was at a field day about 2-3 years ago...That particular
ford truck is a 68 F-250. Note the antenna on the Ute bed...
Works all bands 80-10, including warc, and is all homemade
of course...I carried the tower and beam on that motorcycle
trailer. The tower is a tilt/crankover, and the beam a cushcraft
A4S.
I also have another 74 ford F-100 , also with a camper, and the
antenna mount on it is on the cab, nearly at roof level. It's even
higher than the one on the 68...Would kick ole Barry's ass with
that plastic corvette... I like his car though....Nice...I didn't
know
an ole fart like him drove a vette....I have some pictures of his
last shack around here somewhere...I remember he ran a henry
amp...Forgot what radio....One of the fancier JA rigs...IE: TS-940,
etc...??
But unlike that drifty Swan rig he ran, "tubes", my radio is a bit more
modern....
http://www.icomcanada.com/products/a...2g/706mk2g.htm
Lots smaller too. Also, all bands, all modes...His, just HF ham bands
only...
Needless to say, SWLing is great in my vehicles...
But I can also talk, from anywhere in the world...Desert, mountain top,

wherever....If I ever get bit on the ass by a snake, I can call for
help.
Thats the attraction of having that much uglyness on one vehicle...
BTW....I still remember when Goldwater ran against Johnson for
pres....Was in 64....I was in 2nd grade, and had just got my first
portable AM radio for my birthday....6 transisters of course...
If my mother only knew what it would lead to.... :/
I hate driving on the interstate without my radio.....Makes the trips
go much faster when I can talk to all them good ole boys and girls
out in radioland. With the 706, I can listen to nearly anything worth
listening to..LW, HF, VHF, UHF....It's also a good scanner for
police, air, etc...
I remember in 64, I had a revelle plastic model of his car....
63 was the first year of the "stingray"...

If you are driving or riding in car that has a fiberglass body on it and
if it catches fire,I once read somewhere in a magazine about twenty five
years ago,the magazine article said to get out and get far away from
from such a fire as fast as possible because the fire puts out a gas
that can kill you.I don't ever want to own a car that has a fiberglass
body on it.

I do admit those older Corvettes are sharp looking cars and they have
great style.Back in the 1960's a used car dealer by the name of Horace
Slay on South State Street here in Jackson had a 1953 Corvette for sale
on his parking lot for $2,500.I considered buying that car too.Across
the Street was another used car dealer that had a 1939 Lincoln
Continental car for sale for about the same amount of money and I
considered buying that car too.It had a 12 cylinder engine in it and the
guy who owned the used car lot let me take it for a road test. Both of
those cars were in great condition and both of those used car lots are
still there on South State Street. The one across the street from the
other one that had the Corvette for sale has or used to have a 1960's
red Corvette mounted wayyyy up on top of a metal pole for advertising
purposes.I guess it is still there, next time I am in that part of down
town Jackson I will try to remember to check it out.

In 1972,my old buddy and I drove to Sublette,Kansas in my 1957 Ford
Thunderbird car and I paid a guy in Sublette $700.00 cash for a 1931
Ford four door car.I later on traded that car plus $300.00 for a 1939
Ford fastback two door car.At Scott Air Force Base,Illinois,I paid an
Air Force officer $350.00 cash for a 1958 BMW Isetta car,I still have
the manual and some papers on that Isetta car right here,it was a woman
who was the original owner of that car when she bought it brand spanking
new. When I found out I was going to Vietnam,I sold that Isetta car to a
Captain Ryan in the U.S.Army at Scott Air Force Base (same last name as
mine) for $125.00.Let me tell y'all, that Isetta car was not safe to
drive or ride in at all! Going across that old bridge that used to be
across the Mississippi river (the Eads Bridge,I that was the name of
that Bridge,it has since been replaced with a new Bridge nowdays,I saw a
program on tv about it a few years ago) from Illinois to St.Louis and in
wet/rainy weather and that steel open grate roadway in that Bridge and
my Isetta car skating around on there,I was glad to get rid of that
Isetta car!,believe you me! I hope nobody got killed in that little
eggshell of a car! There was an Air Force woman who worked at the
U.S.O.building at Scott Air Force Base and she was always after me to
sell her my Isetta car.Sometimes at Scott, some guys would pick up my
little Isetta car (it only weighed about 700 pounds) and they would tote
it over behind one of them evergreen trees and hide it from me.I would
step outside wondering where they hid my car now!
