Default Are Grundig Eton E10 and E100 radios any good?

I was in RadioShack last week looking to see if they had any SW receivers.
What I found was an Eton E100 and an Eton E10. I had never heard of them but
they looked and felt cheap and nasty. There was no price stickers but I
reckoned $25 and $40 respectively. My jaw near hit the ground when the rep
quoted me $100 and $130. I left in a hurry and later discovered that these
are Grundig radios, whatever that means now. They sure aren't the Grundig I
remember of old that were solid quality. Does anyone have anything postive
to say about these radios?

The 2005 edition of the Passport to World Band Radio gave the E10 a
moderately good rating.

These radios are made in China, and like most Chinese portables, the fit and
finish generally ranges from okay to downright cheap.

I have a DE-1103 and KA-1102 (same as the DE-1102), both small Chinese
portables, which I find to be excellent on several levels for the price.
They aren't DX machines, but they didn't cost me much either. The DE-1103
and DE-1102 radios are less than $50 on eBay and they are solid little
performers. They are what they are, though... they are not in the same
performance range as a Drake receiver.

I haven't tried out the Eton E10, but I suspect that its performance
wouldn't be too much different than most small Chinese-made portables. If
you're looking for a better-performing radio, be prepared to shell out more
bucks, and you'll probably require more room to store it, and you will
probably need to put up a decent outdoor antenna to get maximum performance
from it, too.

"Looked and felt cheap and nasty." Yikes! I sure hope you were wearing
protection when you handled those radios.

They are rebadged Tecsun radios that can be found on Ebay for much
less, and the Tecsun will be able to recharge the batteries.

I purchased the E100 at the Shack last week because I needed a very
small SW radio for traveling. I played with it before I purchased it and
liked it. Its a small radio with big radio performance. I checked the
internet and could have purchased it for about $60 shipped from China.

I can't imagine it being worth $100, or even $60 for that matter. The build
quality is very cheap. I can only suppose that its performance is something
special.
