Check Ebay, they are very common and many come with the speaker. Nice
little bandspread radio. |

I may sound sarcastic, but why would anyone need a Realistic DX-160?
This radio has: poor frequency resolution (main dial+amateur band bandspread only), single conversion (awful images every 910 KHz), undescribibly low dynamic range (was probably OK in the 50's and 60's ), single 4 KHz mechanical (!!!) IF filter (surprise), substantial drift, especially when used in CW/SSB mode... May I suggest a Realistic/Allied SX-190, a MUCH,MUCH better designed and built receiver. It might seem very strange.but both -160 and -190 came from the same manufacturer.if not mistaken. Believe it was GRE in Japan. |

Perhaps he is looking for a full coverage receiver, which the SX-190 is not.

Well sure offer away, but remember he did indicate specifically that he
was interested in the DX-160. The SX-190 is in my experienced ovepriced on the secondhand market for what it is. The DX-160 and all it's brethren are more reasonably priced, have more complete coverage and are pretty decent performers for the money. Indeed I found an old Popular Electronics that reviewed the 150B and found it to be quite a performer (by 1970 standards) for the money. My 150B that I picked up at an estate sale complete with original speaker for $10.00 would hear a lot of stations, and I though it looked pretty neat as well. |

Actually, they thought it didn't work, the switch in the headphone jack had filmed over and wouldn't allow the speaker to work. RM~ |
