You could listen for 29 days for ca. $23 (1 month sub + activation fee). Sirius costs a little more I think. |

If you don't like commericals and they irratate you, you pay to eliminate them just as in cable TV dunno what cable system you're talking about but every one I ever had (cut the cable a 1/2 years ago and never looked back. Sure don't miss paying for TV) had ads up the yingyang. More than broadcast TV if it were possible (FCC constraints being what they are. So paying for tv to watch ads is like a double tax in my mind... Newton B. Minnow was right back in the 50;s and his statement is still the best description of television even today A vast wasteland gimme a good Ute/Mil hit on hf any day over that mindless crapola any day! Hi Rufus What do you mean? Take HBO for example. The only "ads" are for their upcoming and new shows. I don't see commercials pitching products and cars and other bullcrap. Plus, cable standards are geared more towards adults in most cases. You WON'T see them on free TV. I enjoy seeing and hearing political discussions and other programs that are gritty and true and CAN'T be shown on national FREE T.V. Like HBO has documentaries on true raw life scenes that free T.V reporters would never go near let alone broadcast it. I dunno, some people like to enjoy their lives and don't see a corporate agenda or other personal gripes that prevent them from ordering a pay service. I enjoy cable TV and FREE T.V. is the worst crap. To each his own.... Lucky |

In comparison, you can buy a $10 radio (that is always a radio) and doesn't contractually require you to cough-up money every month. You remind me of those folks that are out there buying Hummers when gas is at $3/gallon. Why do they buy them? Not for function or feature, but simply for form -- it's merely social plumage. Your satellite radio's primary purpose is to make you feel "Hep". After that, you will justify the idiocy of contractually paying for radio- reception by various other "Yeah, So What?" reasons... -=jd=- LOL! So what are you smoking? If you really tried it, I doubt you would post something like the above. I got to listen to a co-workers set for a bit (involuntarily) and my post still stands. Is it a clean, clear signal? Yep! Do you have a bazillion stations available? Yep! Is it "all that and a bag of chips"? I think not. Is it worth being stuck in a contract and paying more money than it's worth every month? I don't personally think so. If I want to hear an "All Blues" channel, I'll burn an mp3 cd with a couple hundred songs on it. Done! Well worth the 13 bucks a month just to keep from having to listen to the same crap played over and over and over again on the local stations owned by only two companies. Ok, I'll allow that it's perceived value is a personal decision. After all, some folks *pay* to have their eyebrow pierced! I'm sure those urban Hummer drivers think 10 MPG is worth it too. My opinion varies... Not to mention one of them has an admitted distortion on the right channel that drives me and a bunch of other people nuts, and their crack engineering staff can't seem to put two and two together and realize that it only happens when a certain piece of equipmnet is used, basically it's every other song that has it. Figures that it's an oldies station, and I can tolerate what they play.. Well, if there's some station I want to tune and I can't receive it over the air, but a satellite radio *can*, I think I would just do without that station. I can't justify being locked into a contract for 6 or more months because I want to hear the "All Mr. Bojangles" channel, or whatever. But, that's just *me*. Ya'll enjoy it -- I will continue to consider it a curiosity, much like encountering a street mime, but with sound... -=jd=- -- My Current Disposable Email: (Remove YOUR HAT to reply directly) XM has no contract and you can pay monthly. XM and Sirius both have 3 day free trials online to see if you like it first. XM also has a streaming audio service for $8 a month. If you don't like commericals and they irratate you, you pay to eliminate them just as in cable TV. They also have music broken up into decades. So, if you wish to listen to 40's or 50's style music all day and night, you can with no commercials. So for some, $13 a month is nothing but of course it adds up to $156 a year. I don't have it yet but may get XM since my Eton E1 is ready for it. I'll try it for a month *maybe. If I don't like it, I don't continue with it that's all. Lucky I honestly haven't seen an offer that didn't require a contract if they provided the hardware. Does the XM service throw in a low-end receiver, or do you have to buy that seperately? -=jd=- -- My Current Disposable Email: (Remove YOUR HAT to reply directly) XM Satellite Radio offers: a.. Hi Rufus
What do you mean? Take HBO for example. The only "ads" are for their upcoming and new shows Okay, you seem to have been referring to "premium" channnels only then? True that most of them show coming attractions, but even some premiums have taken to showing, albeit lesser amounts, ads between movies or feature programming. But the rest of cable is overrun with commercials, just like broadcast.. I dunno, some people like to enjoy their lives and don't see a corporate agenda or other personal gripes that prevent them from ordering a pay service. It's not that at all, I'm just a cheap ******* and would rather spend the money on other things. Radio gear, guitars/amps/effects, records and compact discs, etc. I got no problems with other doing what they want with their money, or what or where they watch on TV. I enjoy cable TV there was a lot I liked on cable as well, just not enough to make it worth what the cable company, in ever increasing monthly amounts, wanted to charge me for the usage To each his own.... exactly. I'm just relating how I feel about it. I get most my news from the daily paper, still read it from front page to last section daily, and of course from ye olde internet. Get that free so I can live with that, LOL |
