![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_Bells A Recording of the Bow Bells made in 1926 has been used by the BBC World Service as an interval signal for the English Language broadcasts since the early 1940s. It is still used today preceding some English broadcasts. I have yet to find a recording of Bow Bells on the web in WAV or MP3-AAC. Where do recordings of this interval exist (in these formats)? |

Is this not the snippet of music from the old tune "Lily Burlero?"
http://www.musicanet.org/robokopp/eire/hobrothr.htm Scroll to the bottom. Lilliburlero is the signature tune of the world service of the BBC and so is heard all over the world many times a day. |

Pink Floyd used 'em on a record so they're in the BBC sound effects archives. |

Yes, but that's not Bow Bells. dxAce Michigan USA The bells are more of a ''tuning signal'' than an ID. Like the kiwi on RNZI or the Waltzing Mathilda on R. Australia, no? |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_Bells And, to quote directly from this wikipedia link: "It is said that to be a true cockney, you must have been born within earshot of the bells." This is the commonly accepted definition of a cockney, and not unique to wikipedia. The bells of the parish church of St Mary-le-Bow cannot be heard throughout the City of London, so there are true Londoners who were not born within earshot of the Bow Bells. I shall refrain from childish insults, no matter how obvious and relevant. |
