Anybody using the Sony 2010 for utility listening? How does it compare to a
good tabletop? Frank |

I've had a 2010 for a few years and find it not very good for UTES. The
tuning isn't sharp enough to zeroin on a signal tp decode. A;most any good wuality tabletop receiver (Sat800, R75 etc.) will decode without a problem. Try to get a receiver with afew bandwiths and small tuning steps. BTW most UTES are USB. Charlie |

Yes, I would think the 100 hz tuning would be less than ideal for this.
Probably my only complaint with the 2010...it should have had a fine tuning adjustment or at least smaller tuning increments. |

You can find them and then use your 'better' set with a finer selection to feed your decoding apparatus (cw, rtty, fax). I assume that you can understand voice and morse. |

Frank The radio is certainly stable and sensitive enough to work non-voice utilities. The only shortcomings will be: 1. Filters are wide so close strong signals may clobber the one you are trying to decode. 2. Tuning is limited to 100hz resolution, so there may be some situations where finer tuning would bring a signal in. Much of the time I think you will find 100hz resolution will work. It isn't the best radio for UTE dxing, but it will work. A much better choice for about the same money on the used market would be a Kenwood R-5000 with 10hz resolution. |

Frank i tried it many years ago for UTE listening. it was OK for the stronger ones, but didn't have the sensitivity and selectivity for good UTE listening. Professor of Chemistry Carnegie Mellon University I received an email newsletter about Professor Terry Collins a few days ago about his work in Chemical physics. I get osteomed email news letters and nmaseminars email news letters from Dr.Sherri J.Tenpenny www.nmaseminars.com I have been getting them via email for about six years.I don't undestand much about Chemistry, but it is interesting to me. cuhulin |
