Default Modern receivers (Stereo variety) ?

Any notable models out there? I would like a really good AM section, if
that is not an extinct item these days. I would imagine most of the
design goes into the FM portion nowadays.

Are any fairly recent models good for AM dxing or do I have to go back a
few decades for a good 'tuner only' setup?

M II,

You are talikng about AM/FM Radios and not Shortwave?
I have never heard of any Stereo Shortwave Broadcasters.

There are a few very good AM Stereo Radios out there;
but very few AM Radio Stereo Broadcasters.

Some of the old GE AM/FM Cassette Radios had
the GE Superadio Circutry and FM Stereo. Usually
they can be identified by the 200mm Ferrite Rod
Antenna on the Back and External Antenna Inputs
for FM.

Look at the Sansui TU-919 AM/FM Stereo Tuner
Analog and Digital Tuning Display with Wide and
Narrow AM and FM Filters

Another option is Car Audio AM/FM Radios with
AM Stereo built-in.

hope this helps ~ RHF

Yes..the normal AM/FM Stereo receivers used for home entertainment setups.

That's the type I'm looking at, but with a really good AM section.

Something is very wrong here. One of your listings said the selling
price was $1,145.00 US. That is SICK.

If I had my options, the money would go he

As a side note, I received a New Orleans AM station ,WWL, on my car
radio a few nights ago. I'm in Calgary, Alberta. Good signal.

Best AMS tuner out there is the Carver TX-11a or TX-11b NOT the TX-11, which
is FM only... the a and b models are AMS/FMS. These can be had for around
$150 or so, and are absolute top of the line for AM Stereo, or just plain
broad AM reception.

Well, at least your radio is working to receive the locals.

If you're in Calgary and can't get WWL on the radio, tap one of your
fillings a couple of times.

Many thanks. I will keep my eyes open for a good example.

Tried that. after an hour of tapping, then banging my head on one side,
I started to hear things alright but I can't be sure if the fillings
were doing a rectification or what. I think I dented my cranium.....I'll
try again on the other side of my head later.

This must what's called Single Side Bend.
