Why buy alkalines any more ?

Now here's food for thought;
A pair of alkalines measure 3.1 v
A pair of NIMHs measure 2.4 v 2.6 v

Would the lower voltage affect the performance
of any of these "3 volt radios" ?

Not enough to bother me.

Default NIMH batterys

With most of my radios (Kaito 1102, Icom IC-R5, Degen 1005) I don't
have a problem using 2500 mah NiMH AA rechargeables, but with my
Sangean Super 909 ( a notable battery hog) using NiMH resulted in a
lower signal reading and much less light out of the backlight. My
sollution to that was to make an external battery pack to hold 5 AA's
(5 x 1.2 = 6.0) and plug it in to the jack on the radio. Works
perfect!
