Default Survival radio

If you rely on radio to identify oncoming threat, try the following. It
looks like a reasonable alternative.

I suppose I could throw that junky radio at somebody, but for $20 I
could get a better weapon than a radio without a digital display.

20 years old. Herbert Bush had one when he was President.

You'd be better off with something newer for a ''survival'' radio.

The display is not a problem; the dial is very well calibrated.

Limited coverage and lack of SSB are problems.

Old model, but in its day it was one of the more respectable of the
analog portables. I believe that the '89 or '90 WRTH gave this little
radio a really nice review.

Here are some 'net resources on the '7601:

I own a Toshiba AM/FM/Shortwave Radio (I bought it at a Goodwill thrift
store about eight or nine years ago, only a few dollars) that looks very
much like that Sony, and it works too, except the signal meter does not
work.Maybe that's why it showed up at the Goodwill store.A couple of
days ago,I bought a nice Murray bicycle that has a three speed gearshift
in the rear hub of the bicycle's rear wheel, only eight dollars for the
bicycle,it's still sitting out there in my raggity old 1978 Dodge
longgggg wheelbase van, crammed full of old Goodwill junk.

I don't think DX-Ass would approve of your idea.

Look out! He's going to call you a tard-boy!
