Default indoor reception

I am really having a hard time with local interference in my apartment building. I get good reception outside and away from the building, but it's cold outside at night when I do most of my listening.

I have a Sony ICF-SW7600GR and a Degen DE31 active loop antenna. Both are running on batteries. The DE31 doesn't usually strengthen the signal much because the whip antenna is right by a window. Maybe I haven't tuned it carefully enough. The window that's convenient for me to use is facing north-northeast.

My apartment building is plagued by dimmer switches, televisions, and my own computer (which I try to keep away from the radio).

Could anyone suggest anything that could help reduce the interference?

I suffer from the same dilemma here too. My best guess towards a
solution is to just move somewhere else. I've tried a few things, but
hardly anything I've heard suggested really works. Wish I could be of
more help. I suppose I was kind of glad to see that me, myself and I
aren't the only ones that have that trouble. I'll be watching for
suggestion from folks out there too. Take care.

Try a loop antenna first. Past that, there are noise reducing antenna
systems available to purchase, but they cost quite a bit. Have a
look-see at:

I have the ANC-4. It wasn't very expensive (about $100), and it was
effective when I used a long wire. Since I went to a Wellbrook, I don't
use it anymore. I suppose I could ebay the ANC-4, but I understand
there are ways to use two loop with the ANC-4 to make a really deep
null while still aiming the main antenna at the desired signal.

Actually, I got the old ANC-4 when JPS was making consumer products.
The Timewave version is about twice the price.

Here is the MFJ version:

I'd get the wellbrook before I bought any of these noise cancellers.

I live in an apartment in Hong Kong and believe I am in a similar situation
as yours. My radio is a cheap, made-in-China Kaide.

I don't have an active antenna. Instead I simply put a 6 yard insulated
wire (clipped to the radio's telescopic antenna) outside the room window
and have it run horizontally to the balcony. Reception improves a lot.
Certainly better than using the telescopic antenna alone. I am getting
good SW reception from as far as Radio Australia. Broadcasts from
transmitters in Singapore (BBC) and Guam (VOA) are clearly heard, too.

What I couldn't get is the broadcast from the (1) smaller transmitters of
Radio New Zealand and Radio Singapore, etc, and (2) transmitters in
Europe. However, the bands are so flooded with the Chinese (domestic?) SW
broadcasts that I suppose these stations will simply be drowned out even
with a good outdoor antenna.
