![]() Hi, I havent had a shortwave in probably 25 years, and am thinking about getting another one. The one I had back in the day was a Rhapsody, one of those larger tabletop models with the swivel "directional" antenna on top of it. Probably $50 or so back in the early 1980's. It did, as far as I know, a decent job. I enjoyed listening to the propaganda from the old Soviet Union. I see radios now ranging from $10 to whatever you care to spend. It looks like most of the folks in here have high end radios, but Im planning on staying under $100.00 as that should cover a radio that will provide some "casual" listening. That, and funds are limited, and I do like to have several interests covered and not all my money tied up in one activity. I do read reviews and such on the net, but I always prefer to hear personal experiences from actual users. About the only features Id require on a cheap radio is an external antenna jack (I think many el-cheapos lack this), and a digital tuner, as Ive always found sliderules to be inaccurate on most any kind of radio. Any recs or warnings? Thanks, Nathan |

While I don't have any experience with this unit, that is exactly what I was going to say. I've been watching these on eBay, cheapest place to buy one, just over $60... |

As buzzygirl said, the Degen DE1103 is probably the best package of radio features for the money. Just search on Ebay for DE1103 (don't include the name Degen) and you will find a couple of reliable sellers. I got mine from Liypn and had excellent service. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZliypnQQhtZ-1 And another reliable seller is tquchina. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZtquchinaQQhtZ-1 Finally, this website has a lot of information on the newer portables including some extensive reviews. There is a review of the DE1103. http://www.radiointel.com/ If you decide to go with a different radio, just be sure it includes digital tuning. Good luck, and be sure to post your final choice. |

I suggest (only suggesting) spending a little bit of extra money and buy
a Sony 7600GR radio.I think someone once said Amazon.com sells them at the lowest price.I bought mine from www.jr.com I believe you would be much happier with a Sony 7600GR radio. cuhulin |

Nathan,
Save a few extra bucks, or splurge for a Sony ICF-SW7600GR. It is on sale for $129 at Etronics.com. It has the best performance/price value currently available. It includes a Sync Detector which is unavailable on ANY radio even remotely near its price class. You will not be sorry that you splurged. "Nathan Bates" wrote in message ...
